Story and history
This is the place where the Prophet ﷺ and his companion Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) were welcomed when they reached Madinah (al-Madinah al-Munawwarah) on their migration from Makkah. It is also known as Bustan at-Tazlil (the Garden of Shading) and the Bir 'Adhq farm. When the shade moved away and the sun fell on the face of the Prophet ﷺ, Abu Bakr took off his cloak and shaded the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with it. So the Helpers (Ansar), who had not seen the Prophet ﷺ before, knew which of the two was the Messenger and which was as-Siddiq. The garden also saw the first gathering the Prophet ﷺ held with the people of Madinah, and inside it is the famous historic well, Bir 'Adhq.
Virtue of visiting
It is reported in Sahih al-Bukhari, in the story of the Hijrah and the welcome: “…and received the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Abu Bakr began receiving the people, while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sat in silence. Those of the Helpers (Ansar) who came and had not seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ began greeting Abu Bakr, until the sun fell on the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Then Abu Bakr came forward and shaded him with his cloak, and at that the people recognised the Messenger of Allah ﷺ…” (Sahih al-Bukhari). This place has no special religious merit tied to a particular act of worship. Rather, it is permissible to visit it, to get to know and learn about the landmarks of the Seerah (the Prophet's biography) and the sites of the noble Hijrah.
Visiting tips
Entry fees: a ticket for the garden costs 19 Saudi riyals per person, and a combined ticket (Quba Mosque and Bustan al-Mustazill) costs 39 Saudi riyals.
