Story and history

It is one of the old, historic mosques very close to the Prophet's Mosque (al-Masjid an-Nabawi), in the area called "al-Musalla" (the prayer ground). The history of the site goes back to the time of the Prophet ﷺ, who used to pray the two Eid prayers and the prayer for rain (istisqa) in this area. The Rightly Guided Caliph Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) prayed the Eid prayer here during his caliphate. So the mosque was built and named after him, to keep alive the memory of what he did here and of how he followed the example of the Prophet ﷺ. It is part of a group of neighboring historic mosques, near Masjid al-Ghamamah, Masjid 'Ali ibn Abi Talib and Masjid 'Umar ibn al-Khattab. It is a different mosque from the Masjid Abu Bakr as-Siddiq that is part of the Seven Mosques, west of Mount Sal'. Each has its own location and its own story.

Virtue of visiting

There is no special virtue of its own, specified by name, for worship in this mosque. However, it is recommended to visit it and to pray the prayer of greeting the mosque (tahiyyat al-masjid) or a voluntary prayer here, finding comfort in the Prophetic landmarks and in the places where the Prophet ﷺ and his Rightly Guided Caliphs prayed.
